Morocco Opens Door to Foreign Doctors Amid Healthcare Shortage

The government has included in its program legal provisions to address the shortage of doctors observed in Morocco. In 2022, foreign doctors will be able to practice the profession under the same conditions as Moroccans.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Health Minister Khaled Ait Taleb during the defense of his sectoral budget for the Ministry of Health for the 2022 fiscal year before the House of Councillors.
Opening up Morocco to foreign skills has become a necessity to fill the large shortage, Ait Taleb stressed, noting that "limiting ourselves to national skills to overcome this shortage will require at least 15 to 20 years of training and daily work".
In his presentation, Ait Taleb noted that "Morocco is on the eve of major workshops related to the generalization of health coverage, which must provide services to citizens. This requires more equipment, services and qualified human resources".
He added that "the orientation of foreign doctors to work in Morocco will be based on a regional health map, in order to identify the areas that suffer from a significant shortage of health personnel".
