Morocco to Open Liaison Office in Tel Aviv, Awaits COVID Restrictions Easing

Two weeks after the reopening of the Israeli diplomatic mission in Rabat, an important Moroccan delegation traveled to Tel Aviv on Sunday morning to officially inaugurate the new diplomatic representation.
During a press conference, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, announced that the official opening of a liaison office in Tel Aviv remains dependent on "the evolution of the health situation and the reopening of airspaces in the two countries".
"For now, Morocco will not appoint a diplomatic head of mission in Israel," the Moroccan official specified, stressing that his department would have appointed, among the members of the delegation, "a delegated official, for the direct supervision of the liaison office". Bourita avoided communicating his name.
In early February, David Govrin officially took up his duties within the liaison office of the State of Israel in Rabat. "The visit was very moving. Morocco is an example of coexistence and an example of tolerance between religions," the former Israeli ambassador to Cairo had declared.
