Morocco Negotiates Social Security Coverage for Citizens Living Abroad

Negotiations are underway between the Ministry of Labor and Professional Integration, the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and some concerned departments and ministries. The objective is to ensure social coverage for Moroccans residing abroad (MRE), said Nezha El Ouafi, the delegate minister in charge of Moroccans residing abroad, on Tuesday in Rabat.
The delegate minister reacted in the House of Representatives regarding the situation of MREs in light of the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the government member, a report on social coverage for MREs has been concluded, stressing that the processing of this file began in 2014. Nezha El Ouafi also assures that several meetings have been organized with the ministry’s partners to prepare an emergency plan to anticipate the economic and social repercussions of the coronavirus crisis.
According to her, the emergency plan is based on three fundamental pillars, namely the acceleration of the consular services project, the creation of a digital platform as a one-stop shop for MREs, ministries and all national institutions. "It is a matter of agreeing with the Ministry of Labor and Professional Integration, the CNSS and some of the departments and ministries concerned to ensure social coverage for MREs," she specified.
Furthermore, the ministry’s services have mobilized resources abroad in order to support MREs, by providing psychological support to more than 516 cases in more than 17 countries, in addition to 6,500 legal consultations provided by the Association of the Network of Moroccan Lawyers.
The ministry has also supported and accompanied the situation of all MREs while providing them with the necessary support and responding to their various needs, it is said.
