Morocco Nears ’Green Zone’ Status as COVID-19 Cases Decline, Experts Optimistic

In Morocco, the indicators are green in many regions, proving that the virus is losing ground. Several experts agree that the epidemiological situation in Morocco is increasingly reassuring, and that a return to normal life is imminent. But the WHO prefers to play it safe by stressing that Covid-19 is still not under control and that the risk of new waves and new variants is not ruled out.
A few more regions, and Morocco will shift to the green zone. Specialists are optimistic. "The epidemiological situation in Morocco is showing a downward trend. The wave we experienced in July and August is behind us. At the national level, we are currently in an orange zone and in the coming days we will move into the green zone," says the intensive care physician Moutawakil Saïd, ruling out the appearance of a new epidemic wave despite the relaxation of the population, according to snrtnews.com.
For his part, Mouad Merabet, Coordinator of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center, calls for vigilance despite the good signs. "Morocco will only move to the green zone if all regions are in it. Certainly we have good indicators at the national level: the number of cases has decreased by 39% and deaths by 26%, but we must take into account the regional distribution of cases."
He adds that a new wave may appear with the return to school and the easing of restrictive measures. "We have to wait a few days to judge, but the appearance of a new wave is unlikely," he specifies.
He finally called for compliance with preventive measures, massive vaccination and compliance with the health protocol.
