Morocco Moves to Regulate Ride-Hailing Services Amid Taxi Tensions

Abdelouafi Laaftit, Minister of the Interior, is working to put an end to the persistent tensions between taxi drivers, who denounce "unfair competition", and VTC operators, who are demanding the legalization of their activity.
Towards the end of the conflict between taxis and VTCs? Responding to an oral question from the Istiqlal parliamentary adviser Abdelkader El Kihel, concerning the tensions between taxis and vehicle transport with driver (VTC), Abdelouafi Laftit invited the stakeholders "to sit around a table to solve the many problems that arise" in the sector. According to him, it is urgent to sit down and exchange to find a solution. "We cannot continue like this," he insisted.
For Laftit, even if they evolve in a legal void, VTC booking applications are of paramount importance for the urban transport landscape. "We cannot officially integrate VTCs, but we cannot pretend to ignore them either," he said. [...] The current context forces us to take into account all the developments that arise". According to him, his department is currently conducting an in-depth study to define the means to regulate the sector.
"Very soon, solutions will be found to allow the legalization of these applications, thus offering citizens the freedom to choose the mode of transport that suits them," the minister assured.
