Morocco Moves to Regulate Ride-Hailing Apps Amid Industry Tensions

The Ministry of Interior is determined to regulate the ride-hailing app sector in Morocco, in a context of recurring tensions between traditional drivers, ride-hailing services, and sometimes customers.
In coordination with other ministerial departments, the Ministry of Interior is working on establishing a legal and regulatory framework for the ride-hailing sector, stated Abdelouafi Laftit in his response to the written question from MP Naima El Fathaoui, of the parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (PJD). The minister specified that his department is actively working on this issue to allow professionals in the sector to carry out their activities in compliance with the texts in force and the rights of users.
While awaiting the advent of the new legislation, Abdelouafi Laftit calls for compliance with the texts in force, reminding that any activity conducted without authorization is considered illegal and subject to sanctions provided for by dahir No. 1.63.260 and law No. 52.05 relating to the Highway Code. The authorities are available to resolve recurring tensions between taxi drivers and ride-hailing services, he added, reaffirming his commitment to reforming urban transport to ensure safety and equitable access for all.
