Morocco: mosques asked to lower the volume (document)

The Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in Chichaoua Ait Baha has decided to ban the use of loudspeakers from the minaret for the five daily prayers and the Tarawih.
The official document, signed by the Provincial Delegate and issued from the Guide of the Imam, the Khatib and the Preacher, stipulates that this measure aims to preserve the tranquility of citizens and to avoid sound disturbances. Indeed, the external loudspeakers broadcasting the calls to prayer and the prayers were accused of creating noise pollution, especially for neighboring mosques.
This measure is not unanimous. While some welcome this decision, believing that it will allow them to "live in a calmer environment", others criticize it, arguing that it "deprives the faithful of an important part of their religious practice".
