Morocco Monitors Diaspora in Netherlands Amid Tensions with Israeli Supporters

Morocco is closely monitoring the situation of Moroccans residing in the Netherlands, following clashes between some of them and Israeli supporters, which occurred in Amsterdam on November 7, 2024, declared Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"Due to the attention that His Majesty King Mohammed VI gives to Moroccans residing abroad, and in accordance with the ministry’s instructions, the Moroccan embassy in The Hague, in collaboration with the four consulates in the Netherlands, is closely monitoring the situation of the Moroccan community, in constant coordination with the competent Dutch authorities, respecting the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations," Bourita stated in his response to a written question from the Haraki group deputy, Mohamed Ouzzine.
The head of Moroccan diplomacy insisted on "respecting the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, with the aim of defending the rights of the Moroccan community and guaranteeing them consular and legal protection, in accordance with the legal provisions provided for by the relevant bilateral and multilateral agreements." The official specified that the Moroccan ambassador to The Hague held several sessions with Moroccan association actors and MREs in Utrecht, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam, on November 9, 10, and 20, 2024, respectively, following the events that occurred in the city of Amsterdam on November 7, 2024.
The government member also recalled "the numerous meetings organized by the embassy and the Moroccan consulates general in the Netherlands on the occasion of the celebration of the Amazigh New Year as well as iftar dinners during the blessed month of Ramadan, in The Hague, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Den Bosch, Rotterdam, and Arnhem, where the positive integration of the Moroccan community and its active contribution to the economic and social dynamics of the Netherlands were emphasized." The Moroccan authorities will continue to defend the rights and interests of MREs, in coordination with the competent Dutch authorities, he insisted.
These occasions were seized to "salute the efforts made by members of the Moroccan community in the Netherlands and their contribution to all the development projects of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI," added the official, emphasizing that Morocco "has always been a land of blending civilizations and cultures, a symbol of tolerance and coexistence, an essential actor in preserving security, stability, development and prosperity, and a constant defender of the values of coexistence and dialogue between religions through the ages."
