Morocco Modernizes Driving Tests with Digital Exams and Smart Vehicles

Morocco wants to revolutionize the driving license. In this sense, the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) in collaboration with the Driving School Foundation is working on the introduction of new changes in the process of conducting and obtaining the precious permit.
The new changes concern the written and practical phases of the driving license exam. The practical tests will now be digitized in order to guarantee an objective, transparent and fair assessment of the acquisition of knowledge and skills by the candidates, reports the Arabic-language newspaper Al Akhbar. Traditional cars will give way to smart vehicles interacting with their environment. This new mechanism ensures a process of traceability and transparency. Its launch will be effective on the occasion of the National Road Safety Day next March. As for the theoretical part, the questions asked to the candidates will increase from 600 to 1,000 questions.
To carry out this project, a partnership agreement had been concluded with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Benguerir (UM6P) in order to strengthen the training process and further credibilize the obtaining of the driving license, said Nasser Boulaâjoul, general manager of NARSA. The Moroccan driving school associations are also playing their part. Abderrahim Massaoudi, president of the driving school association in the city of Salé, said that "professionals adhered to this new approach of digitizing the practical tests for obtaining driving licenses". This process will not result in changes to the passing grade required for the theoretical exam, which is 32/40, nor an increase in the registration fee, which is 3,500 DH, he assured.
