Morocco’s Ministers Seek to Replace Top Officials Appointed by Previous Government

Many ministers are trying to do without the services of the secretaries general of their departments appointed under the previous Islamist governments. After sidelining them, they are awaiting the green light from the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, to replace them.
The relations between certain secretaries general of departments and their hierarchical superiors have deteriorated due to differences inherited from the previous Islamist governments, reports Assabah. These departmental secretaries general tend to overstep their administrative prerogatives. This is what has provoked the annoyance of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdellatif Miraoui. He plans to replace the second-in-command of his ministry. As for the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, she has already sidelined the secretary general of her department.
More than six ministries are looking to recruit senior officials to replace the secretaries general of departments who are not in the good graces of their new bosses. They are only waiting for the green light from the head of government Aziz Akhannouch to launch calls for applications for the positions. In the meantime, several candidates for these senior positions are already preparing their application files.
