US-Morocco Military Drills ’African Lion 2022’ to Proceed Near Algerian Border

Contrary to the rumors spread by Algeria and the Polisario, the 2022 edition of the joint Moroccan-American military exercise African Lion will indeed take place in new areas in the southern provinces, just a stone’s throw from the Tindouf camps and a few kilometers from the eastern borders of Morocco.
Despite the rumors and hypothetical threats from Algeria and its protégé, the Polisario, "the African Lion maneuvers will continue in Mahbès, a locality located 40 kilometers from the Tindouf camps and a few kilometers from the eastern borders of Morocco," reports the Spanish media La Razón, thus confirming information disseminated by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) through a press release published in January 2022. African Lion 2022 will take place from June 20 to July 1 in Kenitra, Agadir, Taroudant, Tan Tan and Mahbès.
The decision to organize this Moroccan-American military exercise in new areas in the southern provinces was made during the general planning meeting held from January 24 to 28 with the participation of representatives from all the participating countries. The exercise will be "multinational, multi-domain and multifunctional, with the objective of developing technical and procedural interoperability between the FAR and the forces of the participating countries as well as training on the planning and conduct of joint operations in a multinational framework," the FAR General Staff said in a press release.
