Morocco’s Military Buildup Raises Concerns in Spain as US and Israeli Weapons Reach Andalusian Cities

Spain is concerned about Morocco’s rapid rearmament. In recent years, the kingdom has acquired long-range missiles and defense systems from the United States and Israel, its privileged partners, capable of reaching Spanish cities such as Seville, Cadiz and Malaga.
With the PULS rocket launcher purchased from the Israeli company Elbit Systems, with a range of 300 kilometers, or the American HIMARS, Morocco can easily reach cities like Seville, Cadiz, Malaga and even Cordoba, Almeria and Granada, reports El Correo, adding that NATO military bases in Andalusia are also threatened.
Military cooperation between Morocco and Israel has been strengthened since the normalization of relations between the two countries in December 2020, under the aegis of the United States, as part of the Abraham Accords. Israeli soldiers participated this year, for the first time, in the "African Lion" military maneuvers, co-organized by the Moroccan and American armies.
Morocco maintains excellent relations with the United States, which recognized the Moroccanness of the Sahara in 2020. Israel has recently followed the example of the United States and also recognized the sovereignty of the kingdom over this territory. In addition, Morocco continues to claim Ceuta and Melilla, the Spanish islands and rocks and the Canary Islands.
