Morocco's Military Aids US-Led 'Flintlock' Exercises in Mauritania

The Royal Armed Forces saved the "Flintock" maneuvers in Mauritania this year by providing C-130 aircraft to the armies of 34 African and European countries, against only one sent by the United States, the organizer of this operation.

According to the American magazine, Foreign Policy, Washington would not have succeeded in the Flintock 2020 military maneuvers, which have been taking place in Mauritania since February 17, without the logistical support provided by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

According to military sources, the United States sent only one C-130 aircraft to Mauritania due to the concentration of US military efforts on the Iranian conflict. During this very important operation, the only American plane that participated in these maneuvers broke down on the second day of the operation, immobilizing American and foreign officers for four days in Senegal.

According to the daily Al Maghribia, a unit of the Moroccan Special Forces, as well as parachutists from the second parachute infantry brigade, are participating in these exercises which were launched from the city of Atar. The same source states that these annual military maneuvers, which began on February 17 in the presence of 1,600 soldiers from African and Western countries. During this operation, scheduled to end next Friday, the Moroccan units carried out theoretical and practical exercises related to first aid to rescue the wounded.

The Moroccan soldiers also carried out intervention operations in urban areas as well as shooting exercises reserved for members of the second parachute infantry division. In addition, the Mauritanian special forces carried out military exercises under the supervision of their Moroccan counterparts.
