Morocco's Midelt Wind Farm Completes Construction After 2-Year Project

After 24 months of work, the construction of the Midelt wind farm has been completed. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).

During a visit made by the Director General of ONEE, Abderrahim El Hafidi, with the Governor of Midelt and the ONEE project team, they were able to observe the completion of the construction of this park and the pace of assembly of the wind turbines as well as their commissioning, despite the particular context related to the Covid-19 pandemic, indicates an ONEE press release.

Located about 8 km as the crow flies northeast of the city of Midelt, the Wind Farm site covers an area of about 2,300 hectares. This project is part of ONEE’s power generation equipment program and is part of the implementation of the royal vision to ensure the security of the Kingdom’s energy supply, especially that based on renewable energies. With a capacity of 210 MW, at a total cost of around 2.5 billion dirhams, this park is one of the parks located between the southern and northern regions of the Kingdom, including Boujdour, with a capacity of 300 MW, Tiskrad of 100 MW and Jbel Lahdid of 270 MW, of the 850 MW Integrated Wind Program, the press release states.

During the year 2020 and despite the health context, the various construction activities of this park, especially the internal connections, the transport, assembly and installation of the wind turbines, the commissioning and acceptance tests of the works have been continued, to achieve finalization and allow the commissioning of the park before the end of 2020.

It should be recalled that the wind farms of the Program have been set up as part of private electricity production (IPP) and public-private partnership (PPP), the ONEE press release pointed out, noting that this 850 MW Integrated Wind Program benefits from a concessional financing of 455 million Euros and 31 million dollars.
