Morocco’s EU Membership Bid Gains Traction Amid Economic and Political Progress

The major efforts made by the Kingdom in the economic, political and social sectors confirm its legitimacy to apply for membership in the European Union. Initiated by Hassan II, the project can only be reinforced by the achievements made under the reign of King Mohammed VI.
According to an analysis published in the Spanish daily El Mundo, Ahmed Charaï, director of "L’Observateur du Maroc", cites key elements that make Morocco’s candidacy a viable and solid file.
The idea of a possible accession to the European Union is not random. According to Charaï, "this would allow Morocco to take a decisive leap towards modernity and economic takeoff, and would allow Europe to have an anchor, beyond the post-colonial traditions in Africa".
The newspaper’s director reinforces his argument by relying on the Kingdom’s flagship achievements in the political, economic, social and human rights fields. At the economic level, better tax provisions have been introduced, allowing better access to the international market and, in particular, the Spanish market. In this area, Spain has managed to overtake France.
The Tanger-Med port, the largest Mediterranean hub, represents, according to the analyst, "an anchor point between Europe and Africa".
Ahmed Charaï also highlighted the role played by Morocco in South-South cooperation, thanks to the Sovereign’s foresight, which has allowed the weaving of a network of reliable African partners and the transformation of the Kingdom into an essential platform for Africa.
