Morocco’s Marrakech-Safi Region Launches $300 Million Road Infrastructure Upgrade

Major road projects will soon be carried out in the Marrakech-Safi region. This is the result of a partnership agreement signed between the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka and the President of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council, Samir Goudar.
This agreement is for a total amount of 3 billion dirhams (MMDH). Nizar Baraka’s department is contributing 1.4 MMDH, while the region’s financing is around 1.6 MMDH. This amount will be used to carry out major road projects, rehabilitate and strengthen the road infrastructure in the Marrakech-Safi region between 2023 and 2027, according to Challenge. It also involves the twinning and upgrading of 484.5 km of roads, the twinning of the N8 national road connecting Marrakech and El Kelaa des Sraghna, the twinning of the N7 national road connecting Marrakech and Safi, as well as the reinforcement and upgrading of the coastal road Safi-Essaouira.
The two parties intend through this partnership agreement to promote the socio-economic and tourist dynamics at the regional level, strengthen road safety, improve traffic flow and improve the economic attractiveness of the region through the realization, upgrading and rehabilitation of various road axes in the region, but also to reduce territorial and social disparities at the regional level.
