Morocco Marks 64 Years of Independence with National Celebrations

The 64th anniversary of Morocco’s independence is celebrated by Moroccans this Monday, November 18.

Morocco, at the cost of heavy sacrifices, freed itself from colonial rule in 1955. Each anniversary, the event is celebrated to allow new generations to measure the full extent of the celebration of the Kingdom’s accession to national and international sovereignty.

"We are pleased to be able to announce the end of the guardianship and protectorate regime and the advent of freedom and independence," declared the Sovereign on November 18, 1955 upon his return from exile, accompanied by the royal family. "We have moved from the battle of the small Jihad to that of the great Jihad," continued Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef. A real roadmap, this first independence speech delivered by the late Mohammed V before a jubilant people, reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to the process of building a modern and free Morocco.

It is therefore with this regained sovereignty that Moroccans have worked to establish the foundations of a country that is built on trust and determination. After the implementation of the economic and social development project in the aftermath of independence, King Mohammed VI, according to atlasinfo, has laid the foundations for the economic modernization of the Kingdom.

At the international level, the King has established as a fundamental pillar of Morocco’s foreign policy the development of the Kingdom’s relations with other Muslim and African countries, as well as with its international partners. The various visits and tours of the Sovereign in Africa, South America, Europe and Asia, as well as the Kingdom’s solidarity actions with countries in crisis or victims of natural disasters, are a testament to this.
