Morocco Mandates Visible Mobile Speed Cameras to Improve Road Safety

Drivers will no longer be caught off guard by mobile speed cameras. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has given instructions to all traffic officers to position themselves in places clearly visible to road users.
The DGSN intends to put an end to the cat-and-mouse game between drivers and traffic officers. From now on, the police in charge of mobile speed cameras will have to position themselves in open areas. This resolution should not prevent them from taking precautions against inattentive motorists.
According to the daily Al Massae, this measure follows the recent death of a traffic officer during a road check. He was fatally hit by a motorcycle pursued by the police elements, on the Marina-Smir axis, in the city of M’diq.
The newspaper adds that the DGSN insists on transparency and the smooth running of control operations. To this end, new radars will be installed, as well as breathalyzers and cameras to record conversations between drivers and police.
