Morocco Mandates Nurseries in Government Offices to Boost Gender Equality

Ministerial departments and public services will now be equipped with nurseries, according to a circular from the Minister in charge of Public Administration and Civil Service Reform, Mohammed Benabdelkader.
Facilitating women’s access to positions of responsibility is the objective of this new measure. Decided by the Minister, this initiative aims to strengthen gender equality as stipulated in the Constitution.
The same circular reminds that these nurseries will have to be set up at both the central and regional levels.
The provisions of the project’s specifications stipulate that administrations with geographical proximity will have the possibility of setting up joint daycare centers, based on the specific characteristics of each service.
This project also takes into account measures relating to safety, hygiene, management and financing.
Earlier, in March 2015, similar initiatives had been implemented in the Kingdom, in particular at the Ministry of Communication.
The authorities had supported the installation of a nursery in the workplace. At the regional level, the Regional Directorate of Taxes (DRI) of Agadir has also been equipped with a similar structure.
