Morocco Wants to Make Dakhla Its New Tourism Showcase
Morocco’s national tourism office is launching a major offensive to make Dakhla an unmissable destination. By leveraging its natural assets and developing air connections, authorities are aiming for sustainable, upscale growth.
To align development priorities, teams from Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) organized a series of strategic meetings with local authorities and operators in Dakhla. The ambition is to position this Atlantic coastal city in high-value-added segments, particularly experiential and nature tourism. While the region is already world-renowned for its constant winds and kitesurfing spots, it now aims to diversify its image by capitalizing on its pristine beaches, desert landscapes, and growing ecolodge offerings.

To achieve this, authorities are deploying a strategy based on four pillars: air connectivity, marketing, digital promotion, and distribution. Agreements have been reached with airlines to connect Dakhla directly to priority markets such as France and Spain. In parallel, communication is intensifying online through content creators, while maintaining a strong presence at international trade shows like FITUR. On the commercial front, the ONMT is partnering with travel agencies to extend stay duration and target higher-spending visitors.

This momentum also extends to the domestic market, with customized offerings designed to encourage Moroccans to explore the region. Reflecting close coordination between public and private sectors, this comprehensive initiative aims to accelerate projects while ensuring controlled development of the area. Through this approach, the ONMT reaffirms its commitment to making the country’s destinations true "references in performance, sustainability, and value creation."
