International tourist arrivals in Africa increased by 6% in 2018, according to the World Tourism Organization: "Limited information from Africa and the Middle East suggests growth of 6% and 4% respectively." Morocco, for its part, still holds this year the position of the first tourist destination in Africa, according to the English-language website Pulse. Moreover, in 2018, according to MAP, the Kingdom welcomed more than 12,300,000 tourists, or one million more than in 2017.
The media does not spare praise about the Kingdom: "Morocco is the most visited country in Africa, with over 12 million tourists in 2018 [...]. The enchanting souks, the red-colored buildings, the magnificent palaces and mosques and the lively local markets are what make tourists flock to the country every year. There is also the hypnotizing red sand of the desert that gives the impression of being in Dubai. The main tourist cities are Marrakech, Casablanca and Agadir."
Then come South Africa, followed by Egypt, then Tunisia and Algeria. And completing the African top ten are Zimbabwe, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritius and finally, in tenth place, Tanzania.
