Morocco Loses $5 Billion Annually to Corruption, Report Finds

Morocco pays a heavy price each year in terms of corruption. According to the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property, the kingdom loses 50 billion dirhams per year.
Corruption is bleeding Morocco. Proof of this, the kingdom loses 50 billion dirhams each year, which is equivalent to about 5% of its gross domestic product (GDP).
In a press release relayed by Al Massae, the association states, on the sidelines of the meeting of its administrative committee, held in Casablanca, that corruption affects all sectors of activity and seriously undermines public institutions. According to the Arabic-language daily, "the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property has called on the authorities to strengthen measures to prevent the perpetuation of bad behavior that causes the state to lose money to the benefit of individuals and creates social inequalities".
Al Massae reports that this phenomenon costs Morocco billions, according to information from the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property. And to add that the government must tackle the problem head-on to reduce and eradicate corruption in the kingdom.
Based on the information provided by the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Property, the newspaper relates the colossal losses caused by the phenomenon of corruption which, if nothing is done, will cause further damage whose consequences will be difficult to manage in the future.
