Morocco Leaps into 5G Era: Nationwide Rollout Set to Transform Cities and Industry

Morocco is preparing to commercially launch fifth-generation (5G) telephony services next November, a major step in its digital strategy.
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) confirmed this Tuesday, September 2, that all the conditions were met, engaging the three national operators - Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and Inwi - in a deployment plan that will extend until 2030.
The deployment will begin this year in eight major cities and the main airports, with the aim of covering 45% of the population by 2026 and 85% by 2030. This schedule is based on an already solid infrastructure: more than 80% of urban radio sites are connected to the fiber optic network and the necessary frequency bands have been reallocated. For their 20-year license, each operator will pay a minimum of 600 million dirhams.
The authorities are counting on this network to support the development of key projects such as smart cities, industrial hubs like Tanger Med, and digital health services. To accompany this ambition, cybersecurity has been defined as an "absolute priority", with a "national surveillance system" aimed at protecting infrastructures and ensuring user confidence.
