Morocco to Lead UN Advocacy for Renewable Energy Innovation and Climate Goals

Number 1 worldwide on the theme "innovation, technology and data", Morocco will lead an advocacy based on a set of concrete actions for Sustainable Development Goal 7 and the climate objectives of the Paris Agreement. This first global energy meeting under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly since 1981 aims to accelerate the achievement of this objective.

The aim is to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy services, and to facilitate the achievement of the climate objectives of the Paris Agreement, says Eco actu. In this context, this appointment of Morocco salutes the efforts of the kingdom for the development of integrated and innovative renewable energy projects in order to exceed 52% of renewable sources in the national electricity mix by 2030.

Thus, Morocco is expected to make a global advocacy for the theme of innovation, technology and data; the mobilization of national energy pacts for a concrete offer; awareness-raising to promote the High-Level Dialogue on Energy and provide strategic advice to the technical working group.

On this occasion, Mustapha Bakkoury, President of Masen, who represented Morocco at the virtual launch of the High-Level Dialogue on Energy, recalled that "The vision of His Majesty which has shaped the achievements of the Kingdom in the field of renewable energies, and which has inspired the international dynamic since the holding of COP22 in Marrakech, is crowned by this new mark of confidence from the United Nations, designating Morocco as the world champion of the UN high-level dialogue on energy. This strategic mission will make it possible to continue to plead the cause of the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level, and to accelerate its implementation."

It should be recalled that Masen had received, in 2016, the prestigious United Nations environmental award "Champions of the Earth" in the "entrepreneurial vision" category. It marks its presence in the Coalition project, launched by Morocco and Ethiopia, for Sustainable Energy Access for the benefit of vulnerable populations in poor countries.
