Morocco Lawmakers Urge Bill Relief for Low-Income Families Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Deputies have asked the head of government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, to exempt low-income families from paying water, electricity and Internet bills during this period marked by the closure of non-essential activities.
The deputies urged the government to work to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the lives of low-income Moroccan families. They asked that internet connection be free for students to allow them to continue their studies remotely. They also called for the provision of tools to enable students in rural areas to follow distance learning courses.
Similarly, the parliamentarians called for the creation of social protection institutions that can accommodate homeless adults and children and protect them from the coronavirus epidemic.
The parliamentarians also stressed the need to conduct continuous price control campaigns in the markets.
