Morocco Lawmakers Propose Bill to Abolish Parliamentary Pensions

The issue of parliamentary pensions was raised again on November 19, 2019, following the bill submitted by the deputy of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Ibtissam El Azzaoui.
According to TelQuel, this bill contains provisions to cancel pensions and proceed with the discharge of the pension fund.
It is divided into four articles, namely: the objective of the project, the procedure to be followed to refund the contributions and terminate the deductions. To this are added the reimbursement of the monthly contributions of parliamentarians to the pension fund after deduction of the sums already allocated, as well as the suspension of deductions at source of contributions as soon as the law comes into force.
Before Morocco, Jordan and Lebanon had experimented with the abolition of these pensions.
