Morocco Launches ’Wiqaytna’ COVID-19 Contact Tracing App to Alert Users of Exposure

The Ministry of Health has launched a mobile application for notification of exposure to covid-19 called "Wiqaytna", thus strengthening the existing contact tracing system.
"Wiqaytna", based on Bluetooth technology and whose use is voluntary, alerts its users in case of prolonged physical proximity with another user who turns out to be positive for the coronavirus in the 21 days following the contact, explains a press release from the Ministry of Health on Monday.
Following this notification, the teams of the Ministry of Health proceed to an assessment of the exposure risk and, if necessary, contact the notified case, specifies the same source.
The launch of this application is part of a national awareness campaign focused on the theme "Let’s stay vigilant, let’s protect each other", the aim being to encourage citizens to continue to adopt preventive measures slowing the spread of this virus.
These preventive measures include frequent handwashing with soap and water or a hydroalcoholic solution, wearing a mask and physical distancing, to which the use of the "Wiqaytna" application, available for download from June 1 on "Google Play", "App store".
In order to contribute to the effectiveness of this mobile solution, the Ministry of Health encourages citizens to incorporate the four preventive measures into their daily habits, and calls on all associative actors, the private sector, the media and all citizens to massively contribute to this awareness campaign.
