Morocco Launches New Streamlined Consular Services for Expats

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation is once again simplifying the lives of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) by setting up a new procedure for the issuance of "Proximity Consular Services" at all Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts, regardless of the post to which their place and country of residence are attached.

This new service aims to meet the expectations of users for modern and interactive Consular Services. It responds to the needs for modernization and proximity of consular services, says the MAP. Several coordination actions with the partner Departments concerned by the reform have been implemented as part of the launch of this new procedure. In the same dynamic, Nasser Bourita’s department set up the Centralized Electronic Register of Consular Registrations with unique identifiers not impacted by the change of the post of attachment and the implementation of new computer developments of the consular systems to cover all aspects of this reform.

The advantage of this register is that it allows MREs to request appointments for the various consular services (passport, CNIE, notarial acts, legalization, certificates, etc.) Applicants can go to a post in the kingdom’s consular network and thus have their services delivered, it is specified.

The implementation of this new procedure required a test phase for the delivery of "Proximity Consular Services" at the Consular Posts in France starting November 13, 2023. The ministry carried out its implementation at the Consular Generals in Spain as of November 20, 2023. After this test phase, this solution has been generalized to all the Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts of the Kingdom.

Pending the implementation of the implementing text relating to the new law on civil status, MREs can thus submit their appointment requests and have all the aforementioned consular services delivered, at all the Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts of the Kingdom, with the exception of civil status services (birth and death transcription, issuance of birth and death certificates and family books).
