Morocco Launches Probe into Widespread Healthcare Aid Fraud

The Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, ordered the opening of an investigation, after the Economic Monitoring Committee recorded more than two million complaints from beneficiaries of the Medical Assistance Scheme (RAMED) whose aid requests were rejected.
The complainants, in their complaints, accuse local officials of having granted RAMED cards to wealthy people. About 1,780 households with real estate and other assets would have improperly obtained these cards to the detriment of several thousand beneficiary families.
Following the recording of these numerous complaints, the Ministry of the Interior has opened an investigation to determine the responsibilities and sanction the perpetrators of these fraudulent acts.
According to the daily Assabah, the investigation will be carried out on the basis of data from the National Agency for Land Conservation, Cadastre and Cartography (ANCFCC) and the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI).
Thanks to these complaints, mostly from people in rural areas and small towns, the aid of several beneficiary families has been unblocked. Along the same lines, the rural municipalities of the cities of Fez, Meknes, Tangier, Tetouan and Al Hoceima will receive inspection teams this week.
For the record, the Special Fund for the Management of Covid-19 has planned a subsistence allowance for RAMED beneficiary households. It is 800 dirhams for single persons or two-person households, 1,000 dirhams for households of three to four persons and 1,200 dirhams for households of more than four persons.
