The Ministry of Industry and the Customs Department are jointly conducting investigations into import authorizations for poor quality mobile phone chargers, especially those from China.

The fight against defective mobile phone chargers has been triggered. To this end, a joint commission composed of the Ministry of Industry and the Customs Department has begun investigations into import authorizations for GSM chargers declared over the past two years, reports the daily Assabah. In its sights, the devices from China, the majority of which do not meet safety standards.

Likewise, the services that authorized the entry into Morocco of this type of charger will be particularly targeted, the same source specifies. The objective is to identify the responsibilities in order to sanction the offenders. The same source indicates that defective chargers are introduced into the Kingdom through smuggling.

With the help of the security services, the Commission will proceed to control the shops selling the devices. The aim is to verify the existence and authenticity of the acquisition documents for these products.

In addition, the Central Customs Directorate has placed particular emphasis on strengthening the control of containers of products that may present a danger to their users. To this end, importers will be required to present a Certificate of Homologation, issued by the Directorate of Consumer Protection, Market Control and Quality, under the Ministry of Industry.

These investigations follow the general outcry caused by the death of Hiba, a 7-year-old girl, burned alive on August 4, 2019 in Sidi Allal Bahraoui, in a fire caused by a poor quality mobile phone charger.
