Morocco Launches Police Support Cells for Women and Girls Facing Violence

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has created support cells for women and girls who are victims of violence, following the provisions of Law 103-13 of February 22, 2018, on the fight against violence against women.
These new structures were presented on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Royal Institute of Police in Kenitra, during a study day on the care of women and girls who are victims of violence. It was organized on the initiative of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), in partnership with UN Women.
These structures aim to capitalize on the accumulated experience of the reception cells for women victims of violence, created in 2007 within the services of the Judicial Police.
From now on, they must comply with the new provisions of Law 103-13. These take into account psychological support, counseling, supervision and the processing of complaints and grievances, instead of being solely security units responsible for receiving and processing these complaints.
They are led by a central unit for the care of women victims of violence, which aims to analyze the data collected, make recommendations, supervise, guide, develop and publish guides and manuals, as well as plan initial, continuous and specific training.
This unit is also responsible for coordinating the action of the DGSN at the interdepartmental level with government agencies and civil society, developing partnerships with stakeholders, pooling resources and coordinating the actions taken.
Thanks to the support of the Canadian Government, several presentations were made during this study day on the new provisions of Law 103-13, as well as on the establishment of the DGSN’s cells for the care of women and girls who are victims of violence.
