Morocco Launches Oceanographic Research Initiative with Royal Navy Partnership

As part of the strengthening of scientific research, mainly in the field of the sea, the Royal Navy and the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (UAE) organized, on Friday, January 29, the first day of oceanographic research in Tangier.
During the meeting, the two parties presented the work already carried out in the field of oceanographic research, exchanged the knowledge acquired and developed a common research program in the short, medium and long term.
In a statement to the press, Ahmed Hammouch, Director of Scientific Research and Innovation at the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, indicated that Morocco has very important resources. He also stressed that scientific research is important for the preservation and proper exploitation of these resources. Thus, the meeting was an opportunity to unite the skills of universities to work in this field alongside the Royal Navy.
The President of the UAE, Bouchta El Moumni, for his part, indicated that the theme of this meeting is important for the socio-economic and strategic development of the country. He also recalled that the kingdom benefits from a coastline spread over more than 3,500 km of coast, beneficial to the development of the kingdom and the well-being of its population.
However, the President of the UAE stressed that the marine field in Morocco is little studied in cartographic, geographic, biological, sedimentological and geophysical terms, important for its exploration and sustainable exploitation, since in this field, research is conducted in an isolated and fragmented manner.
Thus, it is essential to set up a core group, composed of researchers from the Royal Navy and the UAE, to unite the national skills and jointly lead oceanographic research in Morocco.
