Morocco Launches National Population Register in Rabat, Nationwide Rollout by 2024

The national population register has come into force in Rabat, before its generalization throughout Morocco by 2024. The decision of the Minister of the Interior has just been published in the Official Bulletin.
The National Population Register was set up within the framework of Law No. 72.18 relating to the system for targeting the beneficiaries of social assistance programs and creating the National Agency for Registers. It was designed for better organization of social actions in Morocco, as desired by King Mohammed VI during the Throne Speech on July 29, 2019. It consists of a digital, central and secure database. These are personal information of the entire population on the national territory.
This register will therefore allow the consolidation and improvement of the various benefits provided to help families who wish to be covered by support or social service programs, under the supervision of public administrations, local authorities and public bodies. Henceforth, all beneficiaries will have equitable access to the various services, without any form of discrimination, in accordance with the provisions of Article 31 of the Constitution.
Its implementation will be generalized to all cities in Morocco by 2024. However, registering is optional. Only those who want to benefit from the aid programs and social services provided by public administrations, local authorities and public bodies have the obligation to register.
