Morocco Launches National Arms Industry with US Backing

A month after signing the military cooperation agreement with the United States, the framework law for the development of a national arms industry has just been endorsed by the Moroccan parliament.
The decree, submitted in the report of the Delegate Minister in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi, refers to defense and security materials and equipment, and will allow the Royal Armed Forces to open up to new weapons technologies.
The Moroccan arms industry will rely on the expertise and know-how of the United States. A military cooperation agreement, which extends over a period of 10 years, had been signed to this effect, during the visit of the US Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, in October.
Among the main areas discussed was the promotion of joint investment projects in Morocco in the defense industry sector. An approach that will allow the kingdom to develop its autonomy through technology transfer.
