Morocco Launches $36 Million Emergency Water Plan for Northern Cities

Morocco has put in place an emergency plan to secure the water supply for the populations of Tangier and Targuist. This plan is estimated at 360 million DH.
As soon as this emergency plan was drawn up, the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North (APDM) installed a pipeline with a flow rate of 1600 l/s to supply the El Hachef treatment plant on the "9 April" dam from the Dhar Khrofa irrigation perimeter. This 1400 mm diameter pipeline will stretch over 26 kilometers at a cost of 200 million DH.
It will be put into service next November. In Targuist, a 100 l/s pipeline is planned, connected to the Al Hoceima water production system in order to secure the drinking water supply of the city for a total amount of 142 million DH. It will also be connected to various surrounding drilling points to complete the system. The total cost of this system amounts to 18 million DH.
The commissioning of the two construction sites is scheduled for next November.
