Morocco Launches Major Airport Expansion Plan Ahead of 2030 World Cup

In anticipation of the 2030 World Cup that it will co-host with Spain and Portugal, Morocco will expand several airports, including the Marrakech-Ménara airport to boost tourism. The National Airports Office (ONDA) has launched two calls for tenders in this regard.
Morocco is working to realize its ambition to increase the total accommodation capacity of its airports to 80 million passengers per year, compared to 40 million passengers currently, before the major events, particularly the 2030 World Cup that it will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The National Airports Office (ONDA) has launched a pre-qualification tender for the extension of Marrakech-Ménara airport, bringing its total area to 142,000 m², with a capacity of 16 million passengers per year. Scheduled for 2019, this extension was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
