Morocco Launches Investigation into Citizens Detained by Criminal Gangs in Myanmar

On the orders of the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca, a judicial investigation has just been opened to elucidate the case of Moroccans detained and tortured by armed criminal gangs in Myanmar (Burma), on the border with Thailand. It is being conducted by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
Some victims and families of victims have already been heard as part of this investigation, the Attorney General of the King said in a statement. For its part, the Moroccan embassy in Bangkok is closely following the situation and doing its best to secure the release of the Moroccans detained by armed criminal gangs in Myanmar (Burma), assured Abderrahim Rahhaly, Moroccan ambassador to Bangkok.
According to the first elements of the preliminary investigation, these Moroccans are being held by criminal networks specialized in human trafficking who dangle online sales job contracts and attractive salaries to lure their victims. The victims are then sequestered and exploited by these criminals who force them to work without a break and torture them as soon as they express the wish to return to their countries of origin.
Pending the results of the investigation that will shed light on this case and apprehend all the perpetrators and co-perpetrators of these criminal acts, the Attorney General has called on Moroccans to be cautious and vigilant regarding recruitments on social networks or through intermediaries in Morocco and abroad.
