Morocco Launches Extradition Guide to Enhance International Judicial Cooperation

The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office proceeded, on Thursday, to the launch of the "guide to the extradition procedure" on the occasion of a training on "extradition between domestic law and international conventions".

The result of cooperation between Morocco and the European Union (EU) within the framework of the Justice Reform Support Program, this technical support aims to strengthen the skills of prosecutors in the field of international judicial cooperation through the development of a practical guide on the extradition procedure and the organization of regional awareness-raising training sessions on this subject.

Presenting this guide, the head of the Technical Cooperation Unit at the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Mohamed Oukhlifa, stressed that this document was developed with the contribution of a Scientific Commission composed of magistrates and executives from the courts and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which held a series of meetings in the presence of the French expert Julien Betolaud.

This document deals with five essential axes related to extradition, namely the international search warrant and the arrest warrant, the request for provisional detention, the request for extradition, special requests and official requests, the same source points out.

For Moulay El Hassan Daki, this guide aims "to provide clarification on the various topics related to extradition, including international search warrants and arrest warrants, requests for provisional detention, extradition requests, special requests and official requests, through their conditions and their execution".

For her part, the EU Ambassador to Morocco, Claudia Wiedey, affirmed that Morocco is an important ally of the EU in the fight against cross-border crime, organized crime, drug trafficking and money laundering.
