Morocco Launches Emergency ID Card Service for Expats Stranded by Pandemic

An exceptional operation to issue electronic national identity cards (CNIE) will be launched this Monday for the benefit of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) stranded in Morocco due to the coronavirus pandemic. This document will allow them to renew their biometric passports necessary to return to their country of residence.
In a press release, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) assured that this operation aims to facilitate the renewal of the biometric passports of MRE that have expired during the period of closure of airspaces.
All the necessary steps to establish this CNIE will be taken by the DGSN, it is assured. In this perspective, coordination operations with the competent government services have been launched to facilitate the obtaining of consular registration certificates for the benefit of these citizens not residing in the country.
Furthermore, the DGSN states that it will ensure, during the operation, compliance with all health conditions and social distancing rules in order to guarantee the safety of users and police officers.
