Morocco Launches Early Campaign for 2028-2029 UN Security Council Seat

Morocco is already active in seeking a seat on the UN Security Council. The kingdom aims to occupy, for the fourth time, the seat of a non-permanent member, for the period 2028-2029.
Aware that this ambition is shared by several countries, Morocco has started very early to prepare, informs Medias24, adding that to maximize the chances of the kingdom, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, exchanges a lot with African partners. Thus, for several months, in all the communications published at the end of the discussions, he insists on the support for the Moroccan candidacy for the non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for 2028-2029 which will be its fourth term, after those of 1963-1964, 1992-1993 and 2012-2013.
For the next term, the African Union has already approved the candidacies of Gabon and Ghana, who would replace Tunisia and Kenya whose term ends this year 2021. These candidacies will be validated during the election scheduled for June 2021.
For its part, if Morocco manages to obtain a new term on this Council based on the maintenance of international peace and security and which investigates any conflict that could lead to a disagreement between nations, the kingdom could again defend international and national causes, mainly the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
To recall, the Security Council is composed of 15 members, including five permanent members, namely: China, the United States of America, Russia, France and the United Kingdom and 10 members elected by the General Assembly for a two-year term. Currently, these 10 members are Estonia (2021), India (2022), Ireland (2022), Kenya (2022), Mexico (2022), Niger (2021), Norway (2022), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (2021), Tunisia (2021) and Viet Nam (2021). Following the rotation system, Morocco’s next term should take place in 2028-2029.
