Morocco Launches Corruption Probe into Public Contract Awards Across 40 Regions

Following numerous complaints from entrepreneurs on the grounds of accusations of corruption, the Ministry of the Interior is investigating public contracts awarded to "friendly" companies in wilayas and provinces.
During a meeting with senior officials of the General Inspectorate of Territorial Administration, Zineb El Adaoui, Wali and Inspector General of the Ministry of the Interior, decided to schedule about fifty field inspection visits, reports the daily Assabah. The objective is to investigate the public procurement departments in nearly 40 wilayas and provinces where acts of corruption would have tainted the process of awarding public contracts.
After the Eid holidays, investigations will be opened into a multitude of excesses that have affected the assignment of public tenders within certain wilayas and provinces of the Kingdom, the same source specifies.
Indeed, the decision of the General Inspectorate follows the many complaints of entrepreneurs, whose files have been concealed or stolen by "senior officials" of the public procurement departments, in favor of the companies of their "friends".
Already, senior officials and provincial officials have been heard, as part of these investigations.
