Morocco Launches Campaign to Reduce Water Usage in Traditional Hammams

At the initiative of the Bouregreg and Chaouia Hydraulic Basin Agency, an awareness campaign was launched on Tuesday, January 14, for the rationalization of water in hammams in the Rabat region. The objective is to promote good practices in these establishments.
This communication action is in line with the government’s recommendations, but also in execution of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027, mainly its axis which emphasizes the importance of the rational use of water resources, reports the MAP.
Concretely, 400 traditional hammams and showers in the municipalities located in the prefectures of Rabat, Salé and Skhirat-Témara, have been made aware of the scarcity of water and the good practices to be adopted within these establishments. The objective according to the initiators is to avoid wasting water, by modifying certain habits regarding its consumption, and by promoting economical modes of use.
During this awareness campaign carried out in partnership with civil society associations, 400 posters were posted inside the locker rooms of the hammams and showers, and 40,000 flyers were distributed, encouraging water savings. In addition, a vehicle dressed and bearing the same message to raise citizens’ awareness of the importance of water savings.
