Morocco Launches 400 MW Solar Power Initiative in NOOR PV II Program

The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy, has launched the call for expressions of interest (AMI) for the development of photovoltaic solar projects, as part of the multi-site solar program NOOR PV II (phase 1).

According to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment and the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN), the launch of the capacity allocation program on qualified sites with a total capacity of approximately 400 MW and pre-equipped by the Agency for the development of photovoltaic projects has been announced.

This program is the first phase of Noor PV II, the same press release indicates. By going through the AMI document, the various private actors wishing to develop solar projects will be able to benefit from a description of the said program and identify their interest in participating in the call for projects that will be launched during a 2nd phase.

It is also planned to make available, through a competitive process for the various private actors, the qualified and pre-equipped sites, the interconnection infrastructures, the access to the national grid to be granted by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) for a defined capacity, as well as the qualification studies (topographic, geotechnical, seismic, hydraulic, E&S studies...) and the measured solar data relating to the sites, the same press release indicates.

The Noor plan, launched by King Mohammed VI, aims to encourage the implementation of solar projects by private operators within the framework of Law No. 13-09, the joint press release of the two parties recalls.
