Morocco to Launch Vaccine Production Hub, Boosting African Health Sovereignty

Despite the decline in the number of Covid-19 cases, Morocco is committed to its health sovereignty with the start of vaccine production as early as next November.
"The war in Ukraine has accentuated the urgency of the Kingdom’s health sovereignty. As of next November, we will start producing vaccines against Covid and other types of vaccines that will also serve the African continent," said the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, during a conference organized by the Alliance of Istiqlalian Economists.
"We have also developed industrial sovereignty through the project bank. This project bank has integrated the health component. With the generalization of social protection, we will need medicines and it would be more interesting to be able to produce them," he added.
To recall, this project was launched by King Mohammed VI in January 2022. It plans the construction of a factory for the manufacture of Covid-19 vaccines and other vaccines with the aim of contributing to ensuring the vaccine sovereignty of Morocco and the African continent. In total, nearly 500 million euros have been allocated.
