Morocco to Launch National Marriage Registry to Combat Fraud

In a few days, the Moroccan Ministry of Justice will proceed with the launch of the national register of married people in order to put an end to the infractions observed in this area.
According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the launch of the national register of married people will be followed by the digitization of marriage certificates. The government intends to fight against bad practices that consist for some to lie about their marital status. During his appearance before the parliamentarians, the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, stressed that this register will also "put an end to certain dysfunctions in the application of the Family Code".
Thus, a directorate composed of 250 civil servants has been created to ensure that the register is available before the end of this month of January. It should contain "the personal information of married people and will allow to quickly know the family situation of each person".
This register will also make it possible to know the material assets of the spouses. This could put an end to endless battles in the courts regarding the sharing of assets during divorce.
