Morocco to Launch Major Seawater Desalination Plant in Nador This Year

The construction work of the large seawater desalination plant in Nador will be launched during this year 2023, according to the remarks made on Saturday by the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, at the "Orientales de l’investisseur".
Speaking at this event organized as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Royal Initiative for the development of the Oriental region, Nizar Beraka announced that this is a major project in the sense that once built, the desalination plant will have a drinking water component and another to meet the irrigation needs of farmers.
During his speech, he specified that the region has 24 large dams and 22 small dams. It is therefore to meet the water needs that other dams are under construction in Guercif, Driouech, Taouriret, and Feguig. He also highlighted the potential of this region and how the port of Nador "west med" will allow it to be a real engine of development for Morocco and the continent.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, stressed that major projects have emerged since 2003 in all the provinces of the region, and that significant progress has been made in terms of "equipment, modernization of water circuits, and enhancement of irrigation systems".
