Morocco to Launch Electronic ID Card, Replacing Multiple Administrative Documents

During an oral question session in the Moroccan Parliament, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, announced that the new electronic National Identity Card (CNIE), scheduled for 2020, will exempt Moroccan citizens from the obligation to produce certain administrative certificates.
The Minister added that the draft law is ready and will be presented in the coming weeks to the Government and then to Parliament for validation.
The electronic National Identity Card (CNIE) will replace several documents required by public administrations, including the Certificate of Life or Residence, and will allow significant time savings, according to the Minister of the Interior.
Before the Advisors’ Chamber, the Minister also assured that Parliament will have the necessary time to study the new draft law before its final validation.
