Morocco to Launch COVID-19 Contact Tracing App by End of April

In addition to containment measures, Morocco has opted for technological tracking of the population in order to counter the new coronavirus raging in the kingdom. At the helm, the Digital Development Agency (ADD).

The Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, has entrusted the ADD with the design and implementation of an application for the detection and tracking of people infected with covid-19. The project will likely be launched before the end of April using open source codes, as recommended by the framing note (Open Trace, HaMagen, Private Kit...), reports Le Desk.

The framing note indicates that the "system" is inspired by experiences already implemented in some countries such as China, South Korea, Singapore or Israel. The application will be available on Google Play (Android) and App Store (iOS) and free of charge for the user (no data consumption deduction).

Similarly, the framing note gives a detailed overview of the program being implemented. It will start first with the selection of the service provider after a fast track call for expressions of interest due to the urgency of the order. The Ministry of the Interior, the ordering party (and ultimately the owner), will receive a beta version in the very near future, which will be "updated" by constant and automated updates, specifies the same source.

The objective is to detect cases of contamination at an early stage by tracing the contacts of confirmed subjects, in order to locate their "neighbors" in record time. Better, the tool will make it possible to target in near real time the high-risk populations or those who have been in contact with confirmed cases. The tool is also a means of programming the future deconfinement of the population in successive stages by isolating the detected cases and preventing the formation of family or local outbreaks.
