Morocco’s King Summons Top Officials as COVID-19 Cases Surge to Record High

King Mohammed VI is said to have summoned, on Thursday afternoon, the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, and the Ministers of the Interior and Health for an emergency meeting.
According to sources reported by the site Kech24, the decision comes following the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the country. The record of contaminations and deaths recorded the day before would be the reason for this royal summons.
Indeed, the Ministry of Health had reported, on Wednesday, November 4, 82 deaths and 5,475 new infections, the heaviest toll ever recorded by the kingdom since the start of the pandemic in March.
Pending the new directives of the Scientific and Technical Committee, continues the same source, the high-level meeting with King Mohammed VI could lead to a re-confinement of the population in an attempt to curb the situation.
