Morocco’s King Reaffirms Support for Security Chief Amid Pegasus Spyware Allegations

King Mohammed VI renews his trust in Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN). The recent smear campaign that targeted him in the Pegasus affair has not undermined the sovereign’s confidence.
The king renewed his trust in the security institutions and, first and foremost, in the work carried out by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), during his speech to the nation, delivered on Friday on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People.
Referring to the accusations of electronic espionage, the king declared: "In the same spirit, the artisans of this undermining work have orchestrated a vast campaign of denigration against our security institutions. They are thus trying to strike a blow to their high level of mastery and their effectiveness in preserving the security and stability of Morocco. They are also seeking to cast a shadow over the effort of support and coordination that they provide for the benefit of our regional and international environment, as admitted by some of these countries."
And to add: "In this regard, we affirm that we are determined to resolutely maintain the course, regardless of the irritated adversaries and the envious consumed by the hatred of our country."
A statement that sounds like a rebuke to the detractors of the kingdom and a renewed trust in Abdellatif Hammouchi.
Claiming a strategic partnership with an ally in the South like Morocco and trying to discredit its security institutions is in the interest of no one, especially a Europe to which these same institutions have already averted bloodshed, the king concluded.
